Races in Final Fantasy XIV

You should be more preceptive when selecting a race in Final Fantasy 14 as sometimes people may spend hours on a character only to realize that they are not enjoying the character as much as they should. There are five playable races each with male and female versions as listed below.

Hyur

They are the most stylistically human resembling race and boast the largest population in Eorzea. They came to Eorzea from the neighboring continents and islands. As with all races they are divided into two clans:

*Midlanders
They compromise over half of Hyur's population in Eorzea. They place heavy emphasis on education and culture and are generally more educated than all other clans in the game.

*Highlanders
They are generally larger than their midlander cousins. After the destruction of their homeland the Highlanders are rare in Eorzea and the few that remain generally work as sell-swords and mercenaries.

Elezen

They resemble the elf race found in most RPG's and are the race to have lived in Eorzea the longest.

*Wildwood
They have lived in Eorzea's forests for hundreds of years but this changed after the formation of Eorzea's governments when they decided to venture out from their forests. They also posses an unrivaled sense of sight which is a major contributing factor in their skill as archers.

*Duskwight
They have lived in the seclusion of Eorzea's caves before the formation of Erzoea' governments and just like their cousins the Wildwood, they came out of seclusion. They have a heightened sense of hearing giving them an advantage in close combat.

Lalafell

They are tiny people with plump bodies resembling children giving them an incredible agility. They place a large worth in familial ties but are not unfriendly to outsiders.

*Plainsfolk
They get their name from their homeland's flat landscape. Their distinct coloration helps them blend with their surrounding which acts as an effective camouflage.

*Dunesfolk
Their appearance is best known for their luminous eyes which is a result of a glossy layer which covers the pupil. They are known for placing development of knowledge above anything.

Miqo'te
They are cat like humanoids that have adapted a hunting lifestyle that has given them a good sense of smell and have a tail which gives them great balance. The males are very territorial which means they live a solitary lifestyle. They are also very religious.

*Seeker of the Sun
They enjoy being out in the sun during the day and are dedicated to the sun Goddess Azeyma the Warden. They are most known for their striking eyes having vertically aligned pupils and their pale irises.

*Keeper of the Moon
They are the nocturnal clan among the Miqo'te and are devoted to Menphina the lover, goddess of the moon.

Roegadyn

They are best known for their massive bodies (especially the males) and their piercing eyes. They are the largest and most rugged of all the races found in Eorzea but a majority of them can be found in the realm belonging to the Sea Wolf clan. They work most in the sea as sailors, fishermen or even pirates and naval mercenaries.

*Sea Wolves
They originally came from the isles in the far north and were known for their brutal attacks on naval vessels striking fear to those who dared venture into the sea. Piracy diminished later on and they can now be found working as sailors and naval mercenaries.

*Hellsguard
The Hellsguard have a clan tradition of entering the mercenary trade hence give themselves easy to remember names in line with the common tongue. They are a common sight in the streets of Ul'dah working as bodyguards and mercenaries.
